DR. CARMEL COCCHIARO

Obstetrician + Gynaecologist
MBBS FRANZCOG

I graduated from Medical school at the University of Adelaide in 2003, with a passion and commitment to women’s health. I have had the privilege of being involved in hundreds of deliveries, managing the full range of obstetric care; from couples with difficulty falling pregnant, those with recognised severe complications or unexpected complications arising during pregnancies, to those with no issues.

My advanced training years had a specialist gynaecology focus in the areas of advanced laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery, as well as pelvic floor reconstruction and urogynaecology. Thus allowing me to develop a unique set of skills and foster my interest in these areas.

I continue to hold a consultant position at the Lyell McEwin Hospital, fostering my passion for high risk obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as being involved in teaching junior doctors, as a training supervisor for O&G RANZCOG trainees, helping expand their knowledge in the field of women’s health.

My special interests include

  • High risk and general obstetric care
  • Pre-pregnancy, miscarriage and fertility
  • Fetal ultrasound
  • Advanced laparoscopic surgery and minimally invasive hysterectomy
  • Pelvic pain and complete excision of endometriosis
  • PCOS, ovarian cyst treatment and prevention
  • Pelvic organ prolapse, reconstruction and repair
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding, abnormal pap smear and colposcopy
  • Menopause and mature woman’s health

Being a woman and a mother of three, I understand the importance of having a trusted, reliable, skilled practitioner in charge of your care. Someone who will provide you with support and guidance put you at ease during your most uncomfortable times and treat you with kindness, respect and dignity.

I feel extremely lucky to be able to do what I do. Every day I am grateful and humbled that I am able to experience the joy of helping women like you during these unique and special times and be directly involved in providing the care they need and deserve.

It will be a privilege for me to be your doctor.
